Our Data Storage - From Bytes Till Now
Friends data is love for you all and you guyss consume it much much much . Today we store more than 1B in your closed fist also but do you know how we came to here ? No na ? Than read my full blog today i am gonna explain the history of Data Storage.
We love to store our memory and its started 1000 of years ago when we started writing books to store our memory. We started making pictures in wall for storing our memory.
But we faced many problems like if we have 1000 pages book and we have written it also but after some time if we want to retrieve it than it creates problems because it is time consuming and we also didn't know in which page in which paragraph in which line the word written which we have to retrieve.
So now its start in computer world (Digital world) with the help of punch card.
This is postcard type paper cards in which we stores things by punching it with the help of machine but this card can only store in kilobytes.
And we can not rewrite on this card again also because it is paper card if it is punch one time than how can we change it later ?
We have also used punch cards in storing many data that time but after that we realized that there is no benifits of making a mountain of punch cards.
So now concept came of Magnetic storage which we can usally seen in todays hard drives also but this concept started long ago with the drum drive.
This is the heavy heavy drives where there was heavy drum in which we store data and drives head reads it.
In this drive it drum moves and in right moments it head reads the data . We got happy that we have moved on to better field but in this drum we can only store data in kilobytes and drum was so much heavy that we can take it also while travelling.
So after this concept starting moving forward and we have tried many things in between but that was not so much efficient but one day there came an tape drive.
A tape drive is a data storage device that reads and writes data on a magnetic tape. Magnetic tape data storage is typically used for offline, archival data storage. Tape media generally has a favorable unit cost and a long archival stability.
Problem came when we were on song no1 and we have to move to song no5 than we have ro move that magnetic tape full because there access time becane so much slow because some data store somewhere some data store some where so this type of storage doesnot seems to benifit in our life and concept started moving forward.
So now the concept came of Hard drive which was introduced by IBM in 1956 and the first hard drive was big like a Building where we are storing data in megabytes and we have moved on from bytes > Kilobytes > Megabytes. Now we are on mega bytes and we also know that after some time we re gonna do some magic in this field.

But till now we does not have any portable drive which we can use with us even while travelling also and mow concept came of Floppy drive.
Floppy drives became popular where we can store 1.44 mb of data and it floppy drives was of 3 sizes initially as 8-inch (200 mm) media[1] and later in 5¼-inch (133 mm) and 3½-inch (90 mm) sizes.
It was a cool concept we got portability but now we need a drive where can store large amount of data and now concept came of CDs where we can store 700 mb of data and after that there came an bluray disk also.
We have moved a long in data storage field from books to punch than magnetic than optics but now there came an breakthrough where we developed an electronic storage flash drives.
In flash drive there was no moving parts and it is small in size where we can store huge amount of data also and this concept.
In flash we storing data in electronics method which was so much fast and reliable.
We are moving so much fast in flash storage field that from 32mb card to 1gb to 2b and now we have 1tb cards also.
This is how we have moved from bytes to kb to mb to gb to tb and where we can stored 1kb of data in so much big drive but now we are storing 1tb of data in so so so much small device which we can put in our closed fist also.
In future we re gonna more magics in data storage field
Hope you understood the history of data storage and thanks for reading my blog.
